We welcome your visit to Spa Lumina whether it is for a laser treatment, medical injectable, facial, massage, or other medi spa treatment. Our Barrie, Ontario, clients are our highest priority, so please review our policies and FAQs to prepare for your visit.

Spa Reservations

Please book in advance so we may accommodate bookings at your convenience.

Preparing for Your Visit

For the relaxation of yourself and others, please be sure cell phones and/or pagers are switched off. We will provide all necessary robes and housecoats for treatments. We encourage you to wear open-toed sandals if you are having polish applied.

Cancellation Policy

For the consideration of others and your Esthetician, we ask that you provide at least 24-hours notice if canceling your appointment.

Arrival Time

If you are new to Spa Lumina, we ask that you arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. You are welcome to come early to unwind and relax before your treatment. Late arrivals beyond 15 minutes may cause us to re-book your appointment.

Payment Options

Spa Lumina accepts Visa, MasterCard, Interac and cash. Prices are subject to change without notice. Prices do not include HST. Gratuities are not included, but if you feel you want to compliment your Service Provider, feel free to leave it with the receptionist.

FAQ'S

​How much do the treatments cost?

When you call our clinic, you will be given “ball park” figures on the cost of the treatments. Our doctors will set the final price in the consultation depending on the condition of your skin and your desired treatment.

Am I obligated to buy a treatment once I book a consultation?

There is no obligation when you book a consultation. We do not believe in pressuring sales at Spa Lumina. We strive to ensure that all of clients have access to full information so that they can feel confident and comfortable in making their independent decision to have a treatment performed.

Are the treatments covered by OHIP?

Treatments and procedures deemed to be of cosmetic nature are not covered by OHIP. Some insurance companies will cover therapeutic BOTOX® treatments for conditions such as excessive sweating and migraines. Your laser treatments may be tax deductible as they are performed in a medically supervised facility. We encourage you to speak to your accountant to see whether in your case, the treatments may be classified as a medical expense and tax deductible.

Do the treatments really work?

YES! It’s quite exciting to see the results of the laser treatments. The doctors will give you their expectations on what changes you will see in your skin care. If they feel the treatment will not help you achieve your goals, they will decline to do the treatments.

How do I know what is a good laser?

We encourage our clients to research fully on the internet about laser technology so that they have a comfort level picking the appropriate laser for treatments. Check the power capabilities, the skin type clearance (not all lasers can be used on all skin types), the range of treatments and the safety of the lasers.

How do I maintain my results? Will I need treatments again?

You will be counseled on how to maintain your optimal results. Depending on your health and lifestyle, you may need treatments again. The doctors will counsel you on this as well.

How do I prepare for the consultation?

We encourage our clients to read and research before they come in to see us. Have your list of questions ready for our doctors. Write down the areas of concern that you have. We often find that some clients forget their questions once in the consult so we do suggest that you write them down. Our doctors need to see your face/skin without any make up to make a proper assessment. If possible, come in with no make up on. You will also have an opportunity to remove make up at the clinic as well.

How long is the consultation? What does it cost?

The consultation is free and done with one of our doctors. They will carefully go over your health history and your skin care goals before suggesting a course of treatment for you that they feel is suitable. Be certain to have information on hand about any medications you may currently be taking.

What is the difference between JUVÉDERM® and BOTOX®?

BOTOX® relaxes the muscles which cause many facial lines and unwanted facial expressions. JUVÉDERM® fills in the creases, gaps and scars to remove defects in the skin. Sometimes BOTOX® is used in combination with JUVÉDERM®when treating certain areas where permanent deep lines have resulted from overactivity of the muscles, for example some frown lines on the lower forehead or wrinkles around the lips.

Common uses for JUVÉDERM® include:

  • Correcting folds and wrinkles of the face
  • Acne scars
  • Nasolabial folds (between your nose, mouth and cheeks)
  • Horizontal (upper forehead) frown lines
  • Glabellar (lower forehead) frown lines
  • Chin augmentation
  • Depressed corners of the mouth, also known as marionette lines
  • Lip enhancement, including treatment of the edges of the lips and wrinkles around the lips to stop lipstick from leaking from your lips onto the surrounding skin

What laser do you use?

We use the Cutera® Xeo laser for all of our laser treatments.

Who does the treatments?

At Spa Lumina, all injectable treatments are done by licensed physician, and laser treatments by a physician or a laser technician.

Why do I have to see the doctor?

Spa Lumina is a medically supervised spa and we are committed to ensuring our clients’ safety and wellness. Not everyone is suited to have laser or cosmetic medical procedures done. By having physicians on staff, we make sure there will be no complications for our clients.

Why do I need multiple treatments?

Our skin is our largest organ and regenerates itself continually. Our treatments are aimed at helping to exfoliate and rebuild healthy skin cells. As with anything else in life, this takes time and the laser treatments done at spaced intervals build on the natural cellular renewal pattern of our skin.

Why is there such a variance in prices for laser treatments at the different businesses?

When determining on purchasing laser treatments, price is an important factor but should not be the only factor that you consider. We encourage all of our clients to do their research and find out what type of laser will be used as there are many lasers on the market that promise great results but in reality don't meet the goals of clients. At Spa Lumina, we are committed to providing top quality service to all of our clients with the safest and most effective technology available. It is important to note that the lowest price doesn't always equal to the best service and/or results especially when considering laser treatments. Most importantly, we encourage our clients to find the best fit for themselves--where they feel they will be best serviced and taken care of.

Why would I come to you for laser treatment when the salon has laser treatments as well?

Currently lasers are not regulated by the Canadian government. What that means is that anyone can purchase a laser and operate one without any formal training or knowledge. Lasers are an incredible technology for achieving skin care goals. They can also be very harmful for the skin and the client if used incorrectly. At Spa Lumina, having a physician doing the consults helps to ensure that only those treatments that are suitable for the individual will be done. We do decline to do treatments on individuals who we feel are not suited for laser treatments.
