Massage Therapy
What is Massage Therapy?
Massage therapy is the manipulation of muscle, soft tissue and joints of the body. A Massage Therapist manipulates the muscles and other soft tissues of the body. Varying pressure and movement, they use their hands and fingers, forearms and elbows.
Massage therapists use long, smooth strokes, kneading and other movements, working the superficial and deep layers of the muscle.
The purpose and objective is to relax the soft tissue, increase new blood and oxygen delivery to the body, increase range of motion, and decrease any discomfort and/or pain. All of the massages below are performed by a Registered Massage Therapist. Massage therapy is often covered by extended insurance/benefit plans when performed by a Registered Massage Therapist.
Relaxation or Swedish Massage
Swedish Massage uses fives styles of long, flowing strokes to massage. This type of massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness as well as helping with poor circulation. Also done to improve and maintain flexibility. A fantastic way to relax and unwind.
Deep Tissue & Therapeutic Massage
Deep Tissue Massage is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscle and the connective tissue. This type of massage focuses is on the deeper layers of the muscle and is often recommended for those who experience consistent pain, are involved in heavy physical activity or those who have sustained physical injury.
Trigger Point Massage
Most commonly performed in the deepest part of the muscle. Using a variety of strokes, pressure is applied to the trigger points to deactivate them. These are sometimes known as "knots", and may cause local pain or refer pain and other sensations, such as headaches.
TMJ Massage
TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) sufferers experience high-intensity headaches, difficulty with chewing, painful joint clicking and popping, and other symptoms. With the progression of the pathology, individuals may even develop sleep disorders. By using massage therapy on the affected areas of the jaw, temples, scalp, head, shoulders, neck and back, the muscles become relaxed and the state of tension is relieved.
